The Tech of Tomorrow

At Morden Mount, the students are being taught about the significance of online safety for them. We have developed a series of activities to raise awareness about everyday online threats and equip them with the knowledge of how to prevent unsafe situations and react when they come across something that scares or makes them feel uncomfortable.

Differentiating Devices - Receptoin

Pupils in reception classes were discovering the weird and boring devices from the past, that didn’t have shiny colours on the screen. They found similarities with the devices from today and sort them into groups (computers, phones, games and music devices). After that pupils were trying to think of the ideas for the future devices. Apparently we will have games on all devices.

Creature Technology of the Future - KS1

Pupils showed interest in creating innovative devices for the future. Some of their ideas were similar of the concepts they had in reception, such as predicting gaming options in every possible way. However, we also came across some useful ideas for robots/helpers. For instance, a year one pupil designed a robot to help her with homework and her mother's cleaning. There were also ideas for robots that could be friends with the students. The year two pupils' devices were smaller and more purpose-built. One example was the Fixamator, a device designed to fix broken devices. Another device was a sports shoe that could make you ‘the best’ in any kind of sport.

Creative Product Ideas - LKS2

During our safer internet day, pupils were developing ideas for the devices that we will use in the future and created and advert for their device using imovie. We got some interesting ideas. Lollipop Glasses that are edible and infinite, unicorn robot that speaks all the languages of the world and allows you to play all the games in the world and robots friends with similar functions.

Logic and Coding - UKS2

Pupils in year 6 were using an application Scratch 3.0 and as a final assignment created a video game. They created a game of ping pong. Pupils used block coding. In the next steps, they will begin using a new platform Swift playground, where they can make a step forward in their programming skills.
