Maps and Our Area - Early Years

In early years the children have been focusing on the environment all around them. They have thought about their local area and what they can see around them in school. Maps have been introduced to them through a discussion about where each child lives and where they come from. They have also talked about where the school is, what country our school is in and what area within the UK our school is based. As a whole class our school was plotted on a world map.

Local Area Geography - Year 1

In year one the focus has been studying the geography of our local area and London. They drew their own map of their journey to school, plotting what they see day to day  on the way and also built a 3d model map of their classrooms. They  used a map of the school to plot a route on and then followed that route around the school. They have used google maps to gain understanding of where our school is within the Uk and London. Year one have now  begun to look at wider London, learning about  famous landmarks and their locations within the city.

Rivers and the Thames - Year 4

Year four have been studying rivers focusing on the River Thames. They have learnt all about the different components of a river and labelled these on maps. They have learnt about the importance of rivers and erosion and deposition. Year four have touched on human and physical geography and are able to identify the difference between a human and physical feature.

Map Reading and Orientation - Year 5
