Storytelling and Performance

The photos below demonstrate the range of high quality speaking and listening activities that were implemented during this term. Providing ample opportunities for pupils to develop their communication skills is a vital part of all our lessons and leads to enhanced outcomes in reading and writing across the curriculum. Pupils are developing their confidence in sharing their ideas and opinions as individuals through these carefully planned activities.

Using the NELI Programme - Reception

Pupils in Reception have been successfully using the programme NELI to promote their early language skills. The children are ordering parts of the story and retelling the story using the pictures. This approach is helping pupils to progress in their reading and oracy skills.

Tales Set in the African Continent - Year 2

Year 2 have used storytelling for writing to retell the main events of a story set in Africa. They have been able to use time conjunctions, adjectives and questions to enhance the composition of their writing.

Stone Age Stories - Year 3

They also used a real-life workshop to develop communication with their peers and parents, and teamwork skills. This concluded with a whole school assembly watched by enthralled parents.
