Learning French

In LKS2, our French curriculum emphasises oracy, game-based learning, and a structured approach. Year 3 focuses on building strong foundations in spoken language through interactive activities, while Year 4 integrates the scheme of work with sensitivity, aligning it closely with staff training. Teachers effectively utilise provided resources and methodologies, ensuring a coherent and structured approach to French language acquisition. In UKS2, our French curriculum focuses on advancing students' language skills through purposeful writing tasks and the use of authentic materials. Year 5 students engage in meaningful writing tasks, reinforcing their language skills and promoting cultural engagement. In Year 6, students progress to writing extended paragraphs, supported by French books, enhancing their language acquisition journey and preparing them for further studies in French.

French Language Acquisition

In Lower Key Stage 2, Year 3 has focused on vocabulary acquisition, particularly exploring fruits and animals through interactive language games and active lessons. Building upon this foundation, Year 4 pupils have revisited the phrase 'je peux' and expanded their prior learning from Year 3 through engaging in writing and reading tasks. Additionally, Year 4 has incorporated regular assessment practices to support and monitor the children's progress, ensuring a well-rounded approach to language development and consolidation.

French Reinforcements

In Upper Key Stage 2, Year 5 has focused on exploring countries and their languages, providing pupils with a broader cultural understanding. To reinforce their knowledge, pupils have engaged in various writing tasks, consolidating their learning effectively. Transitioning to Year 6, pupils have progressed to the theme of 'chez moi,' delving into discussions about their homes and their contents. Throughout these lessons, pupils actively apply language patterns acquired in Year 5 and Lower Key Stage 2, fostering a seamless progression in their French language acquisition journey.
