Summary Reception have been deepening their understanding of numbers between 5 and 10. They are taught to use a variety of representations and manipulatives to show numbers (e.g. numicon, fingers, tens frames) and to match those with the correct numeral. There are two stages to the problem shown: allocating a colour to a given numeral before identifying the different representations of that numeral, using the given colour.

5 to 20 - Reception

Pound Sterling - Year 2

Year Two have been exploring notes and coins this term. They have been handling money in class in order to solve problems practically as well understanding the role money plays in everyday situations. After having opportunities for lots of practical work they have moved into solving problem in a more abstract way using the Bar Model as a way of understanding the problem posed.

Place Values - Year 4

In Year Four, the children have further deepened their understanding of place value and have been solving word problems and explaining their thinking.

Intro to Algebra - Year 6

Year Six have been looking at various ways of solving problems and explaining their mathematical thinking. They have began to explore algebra. They have understood that pictures can be used to represent numbers and they have enjoyed solving problems and explaining their thinking.
