Developing Self - Reception

The 'PSHE' aspect of the curriculum is followed mainly through the area 'Personal, Social and Emotional Development' but also 'Communication and Language' and 'Understanding the World. Children have sung songs and listened to stories about feelings and family. They have been learning to develop independence and a sense of self through play and singing.

Kind Words and Listening - Year 1

Children in Y1 took place in circle time to discuss using kind words, saying no without hurting feelings, and ‘what makes a good friend’. The children were able to explain the importance of listening and describing emotions when talking to an adult or their peers.

Being Careful around Substances - Year 4

Year 4 children have been learning about staying safe around common substances and household products as part of their ‘drug and alcohol awareness’ unit.. They matched substances such as caffeine in coffee and tea to effects on the body. They can explain that many substances are dangerous, especially to young people, and that medicines and chemicals must be stored safely.

Pitfalls of Stereotypes - Year 6

Children in Year 6 enjoyed an exciting and interesting lesson about the dangers of stereotypes and understanding equality. Children enjoyed learning about the diversity of modern Britain and h6ow protected characteristics are an important element of law. They were able to discuss their own assumptions and critically examine gender stereotypes from various sources.
