To Be Good, To Be Kind

These photos demonstrate how learning about staying safe and managing feelings is taught in different ways at Morden Mount.

Playing by the Rules - Nursery

Our youngest children have four main areas of learning and PSHE is a part of each of them. For example, in nursery, the children have learnt that their charter rights are rules to follow for everyone. This allows them to develop their sense of responsibility and membership of a community.

Respecting Others Privacy - Year 1

Children in Year 1 have been learning about the importance of privacy and how it should be respected. They learnt about respecting themselves and keeping themselves safe. They learnt when it is OK for other people including adult to touch and when it is not. Children have learnt that they have a right to say no and that if they need to speak out about something people will listen.

Empathy and Understanding - Year 4

Children in Year 4 have spent autumn term learning that their classes are communities and that everyone has rights. These rights were displayed in class on a tree, with each leaf highlighting important messages from each child. This activity engenders empathy and understanding differences and similarities between us all.

The Effects of Bullying - Year 5

All classes attended assemblies about anti-bullying and learnt about the impact poor relationships and behaviour has on mental health. Mental Health Week was also marked at Morden Mount with a number of assemblies from phase leaders, as well as classroom activities. Year 5 looked at anxiety and its causes. The photo shows children discussing scenarios and situations in which  a person might feel anxious. The children created solutions and shared them with each other.
