Designing for Our Teams

This term, the visit of the Weevellanias on their bus, gave the children an exciting context in which to design and make products that they could then present in front of the whole school. The teachers integrated lessons from their topic with the Committees that each class represented. The DT work was given life in the parade as you can see from some of the photos below:

Committee of Rural Affairs - Reception

In reception the children were part of the Committee of Rural Affairs that celebrated animals and landscapes; this tied in with the children learning about how to care for the natural world. The children identified different features of woodland animals; such as, ears, eyes, beak, feathers and quills. They then used 2 or 3 different features to combine on a base to make their forest fusion mask.

Committee of Gastronomy - Year 2

The children in year 2 were in the committee of Gastronomy . They looked at the countries that fruits came from and spoke about their own cultures and traditional foods. The children sampled different fruits and  made healthy fruit smoothies and ice lollies. With the Weevallania crew the children designed food hats and wore them to the parade with tablecloth capes.

Badge Making - Year 3

The children in year 3 combined different fabrics in the making of a badge. They combined environmental features of Weevallania and Morden Mount in the design considerations of the badge. The children practised ways of joining materials and all the class chose to sew a combination of fabrics together. They evaluated the design and making process in the back of their art /DT book.
