Planets, Plants, and Digestion

These photos demonstrate how science has been taught across the school.

Oceans and Climate - Reception

Reception have been discovering the world around them, in particular the ocean which makes up 71% of our world. They made their own oceans using water, blue food colouring and oil. They discussed what would happen to the oil when the bottle was shaken and after it had settled. From this, they discussed the effects climate change and how it could impact nature.

Anatomy of Plants - Year 1

This term, Year 1 have been learning about plants, their structures and how their growth can be affected. The children created their own dissections of a flower using tissue paper for petals and labeled their diagrams. They also made predictions about what would happen to a plant when placed in different environments. They then analysed their findings.

Digestion and Healthy Teeth - Year 4

Year 4 have learnt about the digestion process and how different teeth have different functions. When discussing how to look after their teeth, they saw the implications of their diet on their dental hygiene through a practical experiment. As calcium carbonate is present in both eggshells and teeth, the children left egg shells in different liquids and discussed the changes that had occurred. They then evaluated how they could make changes to their diets to look after their teeth.

Plant Reproduction - Year 5

Year 5 have been learning about life cycles along with adaptations. They took plant cuttings to investigate asexual reproduction in plants and examined the different stages of living things and how they change. The children enjoyed learning about chimpanzee conservationist Jane Goodall and made advert posters for her institute
