Safety and Responsibility

A Morden Mount child has knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life after Primary school. Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of a society.

New Surroundings - EYFS

In the early years, the focus has been on settling children into their new environment, fostering a sense of security, and helping them understand which adults are safe both at home and in their school community. A key area of development has been ensuring children feel confident in their surroundings and know how to identify trusted adults in their immediate environment.

Dynamic Risk Assessments - KS1

In Key Stage 1, the theme of safety has been a continuation of the early years work. Children have been learning important concepts around keeping safe, particularly in relation to strangers.  Additionally, road safety has been emphasized with a focus on understanding potential risks and hazards that can arise in various situations, reinforcing the importance of staying safe while on the roads.

Cooperation and Teamwork - LKS2

The focus on social skills has been integral in settling year 3 into KS2. Using activities such as collaborative play, including LEGO games and board games which encourage teamwork and communication. These activities help develop both emotional intelligence and the ability to work with others towards shared goals.

Power and Responsibility - UKS2

In year 6, the focus has shifted towards a more complex understanding of responsibility. Students have explored what it means to be responsible to themselves, each other, and to society. These discussions have extended into understanding the role of government and examining current political issues that impact their class and community. Through these discussions, students are gaining an understanding of civic responsibility and the importance of being an informed member of society.
