Tech: Integration and Safety

The main goal is to equip students with the confidence to use technology efficiently and effectively in their learning across all subjects. This includes a thorough understanding of how to use the internet and technology safely, as well as the ability to make informed decisions in case of any concerns. Additionally, students will develop logical reasoning, problem-solving and critical thinking skills that will help them perform coding tasks by following a sequence of instructions.

Tech Enhancing Learning - Reception

Pupils in the Early Years Foundation Stage are becoming familiar with the ICT equipment in their classroom and enjoy using it whenever possible. Teachers are mindful of the frequent screen time children have at home, so they limit the use of technology to educational purposes. Currently, the focus is on using ICT in the reception class to enhance learning experiences. They enjoy learning phonics and writing with ‘magical pencil’ on an interactive board.

Keeping Safe Online - Year 2

Pupils in Key Stage 1 started the year by learning about the main dangers that can affect us online. In Year 2, the children read the engaging story of Digi the Duck, which discusses important concepts related to online safety and the potential risks involved. To reinforce their understanding, the students also explored what types of information are safe to share online and which ones should always be kept private for their security. Through discussions and activities, they gained valuable insights into responsible online behavior.

iPad Integration - LKS1

Lower KS1 has started integrating iPads into the curriculum to enhance learning opportunities. Currently, we are using them in Science, but we aim to extend their use across all subjects, including Math, English, and Geography. Our Showbie folders, where pupils share their learning and projects, are becoming busier every day as students contribute their work. We are collaborating closely with Apple School from Heronsgate to learn from their expertise and empower our teachers to feel more confident in their teaching and effectively utilize technology in the classroom.

Using Social Media Safely - Year 6

Year 6 began their computing lessons by exploring different scenarios related to online safety. The upper Key Stage pupils, who are more exposed to social media, participated in discussions about what constitutes acceptable internet use. Surprisingly, most of the children reported that they use social media and have their own accounts. This topic will continue to be discussed in every term.

Furthermore pupils were exploring ‘The First news’ online and trying to determine, which news are relevant and which one we can trust.
