Inspiration and Expression

At Morden Mount the children are having opportunities to use different art materials in a range of ways.   They are having time to explore and build up the skills to see its effect and impact the material has and how it could be used to create their final product. They are developing  confidence to make confident choices in how different materials can be used creatively for their own piece of work.

Trying New Materials - Reception

Children in Reception have had the opportunity to paint in a range of different ways. They have used a range of tools such as cotton buds, printing with cardboard roll and using different paint brushes in a variety of ways to experiment the marks it makes and its effect.

Shades and Tones - Year 2

Children in Year 2 have also been exploring with paint, working specifically on  shades, tones and blending. Their sunset Africa scene shows the colour choices made to blend harmoniously.

Stone Age Inspiration - Year 3

In Year 3 children have linked their art with their history topic, the Stone Age. They have explored  different effects and textures both paint and chalk can have and how they can be used together. They have developed a greater understanding in ways in which each of these materials can show light, dark and textures. This has helped them to create  a cave type background for their own Stone age scene.

Paul Nash Inspiration - Year 6

In  Year 6, their exploration of art has been  deeply inspired by the incredible work of war artist Paul Nash. They have drawn on his techniques and distinctive style and delved into the world of chalk and oil pastels to express creativity. Through  hands-on experiences with chalk and oil pastels, they honed their skills in blending, shading, and creating textures to evoke the emotional depth that Nash was renowned for.
